NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — Bond was set at $80,000 for a man accused of accidentally shooting his young child during an argument with his wife.
The New Orleans Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Sunday, Sept. 15 in the 4700 block of Sherwood Drive. The child was transported to the hospital with a bullet wound to the leg. We’re told he underwent surgery and is in stable condition.
Investigators learned that the child’s father, Phong Nguyen, 34, was involved in an argument with his wife prior to the shooting. They say he was intoxicated and he allegedly pulled out a gun and began firing at her.
Although his wife was unharmed, a bullet traveled through the wall and struck his son.
Nguyen was arrested and charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Second-Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile, and Aggravated Assault. He was booked into the Orleans Parish Prison.
