BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Shawn Hartley.
ORIGINAL: A 31-year-old man was found dead in a vacant home on Wenonah Street earlier this afternoon and investigators are working to find out how it happened.
“It was a violent death,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “We do know that he was beaten, but we want to wait for the autopsy to be completed before listing an official cause of death.”
We’re told the man was found at roughly 12:40 p.m. at the home located roughly 2 blocks from the intersection of Plank and Choctaw. So far they have not located a witness to the crime. However, someone did see a black male running from the home prior to police arrival.
“We do know that he died some point within the day, but we don’t know the exact time it happened,” Cpl. McKneely noted.
Police are waiting to release the victim’s name. However, we do know the victim’s home address is located roughly 7 blocks away from the crime scene.
