ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA —
St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Captain Megan Vizena warns citizens that there is a scam going around that is offering cash rewards after a lump sum payment is submitted.
“Residents are receiving emails, letters and other forms of communication from fraudulent companies offering money or the opportunity to win money in exchange for an upfront payment," she said. "Remember, you should never have to send money to receive money. A number of people have fallen victim to these scams.”
“Con artists often insist that people wire money, especially overseas, because it’s nearly impossible to reverse the transaction or trace the money. Don’t wire money to strangers, to sellers who insist on wire transfers for payment, or to anyone who claims to be a relative or friend in an emergency. If it sounds suspicious or too good to be true, call us and let us investigate it first,” Vizena added.
