BATON ROUGE, LA — Bayou Country Superfest announced today that George Strait, the King of Country Music, will headline the 2014 Bayou Country Superfest as part of the final leg of The Cowboy Rides Away Tour. And in celebration of the 5th edition of the much-beloved Superfest, Producers announced that they have expanded the event to three big days and nights, Friday, May 23 – Sunday, May 25, 2014, instead of the traditional Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.
The George Strait concert on Friday, May 23 will include another major country superstar still to be revealed. Strait’s only announced festival appearance on the farewell tour will be at the Bayou Country Superfest in Baton Rouge at LSU Tiger Stadium.
George Strait has sold more than 70 million albums in the United States and his certifications from the RIAA include 13 multi-platinum, 33 platinum, and 38 gold albums. With a career that spans over 30 years, Strait has recorded 60 number one hits, more than any musician in any musical genre in history.
The complete music lineup and ticket information for the 2014 Bayou Country Superfest will be released on October 29. Attracting fans from 46 states and multiple countries, the Superfest has cemented itself as the event for country music fans over Memorial Day Weekend.
"We are honored that George Strait, the King of Country Music, has chosen the 5th Annual Bayou Country Superfest, in LSU Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, for his final performance in Louisiana; and one of the last dates on his final tour,” said Quint Davis, producer/director of the Festival. “An event of such historic importance and excitement called for a special night of its own, thus expanding the Festival to three nights for the first time.”
“The only thing better than two days of Bayou Country Superfest is three days of Bayou Country Superfest. Having Baton Rouge selected as a stop on George Strait’s farewell tour is recognition that Tiger Stadium has become one of the premier venues for country music giants,” said Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne.
Mayor-President Melvin L. "Kip" Holden said, "We are truly making music history for Baton Rouge with the announcement that this fantastic event will expand to three days. Our commitment to the Bayou Country Superfest is not only helping to bring the very best country music entertainment to our city, but it's now moving us up even higher as a Memorial Day Weekend destination. Being a part of George Strait's final tour is also very special, and will show the world that while all his ex's might live in Texas, Baton Rouge still loves the King of Country."
President and CEO of Visit Baton Rouge, Paul Arrigo said, “Extending a booming festival weekend directly aligns with the mission of Visit Baton Rouge ‘to increase visitation to and awareness of the Baton Rouge Area thereby enhancing economic impact.’ That is a given. Adding a historic performance by George Strait in Tiger Stadium makes this momentous. It is what we have always envisioned for Bayou Country Superfest and I could not be happier with its continued growth! We look forward to welcoming George Strait’s loyal fans to Baton Rouge!”
