BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — She watches "Ellen" every day and it's paid off for her! One capital-area woman is getting ready for the trip of a lifetime thanks to her loyalty.
Amanda Bergeron’s mom describes her as a self-less women, always giving to others. Now Amanda is heading down under, all expenses paid, thanks to Ellen DeGeneres.
Amanda says the timing is perfect!
"When I saw Ellen and Portia’s trip there and I got to see how beautiful it was that’s when it kicked in,” the Baton Rouge-native explained. “I was like I am going to find a way to go."
After her mom's first hand experience in Sydney, she knew she had to go and hopefully meet the love of her life along the way.
"She said you know I work hard and I want to take a trip, have to plan it by myself," noted Amanda’s mom, Heather Bergeron.
So she entered Ellen’s contest, then moved on with her life, until a little over a week ago when she got a call.
"It was beyond amazing."
Just nine days before that call, Amanda made a choice that put her whole trip on the back burner.
"One of my friends is going on his dream trip to Israel and he needed some money to be able to fishing his trip off,” noted Amanda. “I cleared out my bank account and I had no money left."
Amanda’s mom, Heather says, maybe it's God, maybe it's karma but it’s about time.
"It's really good to see that happen for someone who is giving and kind and just loves people," she said.
Now, Amanda and her mom will embark on the trip of a lifetime, thanks to the one and only Ellen show.
"I am going to make her surf on the beach, and I have to teach her how to surf do it Australian style,” said Begeron. “I lately I have been in that mind frame of, when's life going to throw me a bone?"
Amanda’s booked her trip for December, she will be arriving on her 27th birthday. Four other people across the US also won a trip to Australia from Ellen.
