PORT ALLEN, LA (NBC33) — Officials have certified a petition for the recall of Port Allen Mayor Deedy Slaughter. They say 1387 signatures were collected.
The petition was submitted on Tuesday, Sept. 3 by an independent group. On Monday, Sept. 9, the Registrar’s Office confirmed that enough votes have been gathered and verified to push the petition forward.
The petition will now go to Governor Jindal’s office. He will have 15 days to determine whether or not a recall election will be held.
Mayor Slaughter took office on January 1, 2013. Since then she has faced a slew of allegations.
