BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A 52-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly punched a 15-year-old girl in the face. The battery incident stemmed from an argument regarding kids playing on his lawn.
According to the arrest report, the incident happened on Saturday, Sept. 7 at roughly 7:00 p.m. Officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department were dispatched to a local business after a security officer called for assistance.
The responding officers learned that prior to the incident the suspect, Fred Smith, was irritated by kids in the neighborhood who were playing on his yard, which is located in the 5200 block of Byron Street. He allegedly yelled at the kids to “get off his property.”
The victim reportedly left the area and went to a nearby local business located on Evangeline Street. Smith followed the victim to the parking lot and was heard shouting profanities at her.
A security guard working at the business and the victim’s mother reportedly heard the dispute. That’s when the security guard called police for assistance.
At some point Smith is accused of hitting the teen in the face. The report notes that Smith confessed to officers. The victim had a contusion over her left eye as well as swelling to the forehead.
Smith was arrested and charged with Battery of a Juvenile and Disturbing the Peace. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. His bond was set at $5,500.
