HARVEY, LA (NBC33) — A man died after his neighbor accidentally discharged his firearm and shot him through their adjoining wall, officials say.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident happened on Sunday, Sept. 8 at roughly 12:22 a.m. Law enforcement was notified after a woman discovered her fiancée lying in a pool of blood in their home located in the 2800 block of Destrehan in Harvey, La.
The victim, Rene O’Quin, 32, was found in his bed and appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators quickly learned that the bullet came through the wall.
O’Quin’s neighbor, Pierre Camese, 23, had obtained a 12-guage shotgun from a friend and had placed it on the bed with the barrel pointed at the wall. He allegedly admitted to investigators that the gun accidentally discharged while he was pulling up the covers on his bed.
Camese explained to investigators that he obtained the gun because he was afraid of retaliation from his girlfriend’s family after he was involved in a battery incident the day before.
Camese was arrested and charged with Negligent Homicide and Domestic Battery. He was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
