BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC33) — Tropical Depression Nine formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean Sunday afternoon and could become Hurricane Humberto by midweek.
Winds within Tropical Depression Nine were measured around 29 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph on Sunday-- strong enough to classify the area a tropical depression.
The National Hurricane Center's forecast path predicts the cluster of thunderstorms will continue to strengthen, as it moves west-northwest, through the week.
Regardless of development, this system will not impact the Gulf of Mexico or the United States. However, people living in the Cape Verde Islands, off the coast of Africa, should closely monitor the forecast.
