ASCENSION PARISH, La (NBC33) — Shortly before 10:30 am on September 7, 2013, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 930 south of LA Hwy 42 at Henry Rd. in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of an Elsa Diaz,27.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as the Diaz was driving a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser eastbound on Henry Rd. At the same time, a man was driving a 1999 Ford F-450 southbound on LA 930. For unknown reasons the Diaz failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Henry Rd. and LA 930. Upon entering the intersection, the PT Cruiser was struck by Heffley's F-450.
Despite the fact that she was wearing a seatbelt, Diaz suffered fatal injuries from the crash. Due to the fact that she was carrying a fake ID card, the female has not yet been identified. There were 6 passengers in the PT Cruiser at the time of the crash, including several juveniles. All were transported to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries, except for one juvenile who was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge with serious injuries. Impairment on the part of either driver is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash.
