BATON ROUGE, LA — Louisiana Technology Park’s digital media incubator, Level Up Lab, is launching a series of video game development training courses called GameLab.
The courses are designed to cater to developers at every level, from novice to professional. The first course will be an introduction to game design to allow participants to design video games without any prior knowledge or experience in development. It is scheduled for Saturday, September 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and includes lunch and refreshments. The cost of the course is $99 for students and $150 for the general public.
In its first course, GameLab will be using a development engine called GameSalad, a development tool that requires no design experience. They’ll design an entire level and game optimized for mobile platforms. While in the course, they’ll also learn what royalty free software, art and music are available online, so they can continue making games at home. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops, so they will be able to take their work home with them. Other courses will be scheduled throughout the year as well.
