BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Southern Jaguar Baseball team is getting a much needed improvement; today, the university broke ground on a $1.2 million baseball facility.
Southern head baseball coach Roger Cador says his days as the Jags head coach are numbered, but he wants another tournament run before he's done.
Cador has been trying to get the facility for decades. The addition will have indoor batting cages, locker rooms and offices. The new complex will also be a big tool in recruiting future players.
"We now can recruit a different kind of player, and hopefully, I can be around long enough to make this happen one more time. I want to dance one more time with it,” stated Cador.
The building is expected to be complete before the start of baseball season in February. It will be located just past the leftfield wall behind Lee Hines Field.
