BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Connell Archey loves LSU Tiger football. But, after the Tigers lost 11 regulars to the NFL last year, Archey was worried the Tigers may not have what it takes to go all the way to the championship.
"I'm more encouraged now then I was before the game. I think that we can play with Alabama, and I think we will be right there," Archey said.
Now Archey is a believer.
"I was very encouraged. Mettenberger and the receivers connected and looked like they really have improved. Young defense looks like it's going to be fine," Archey stated.
LSU fans say the Tigers passed their first test of the season against TCU. The Tigers came out with the win LSU 37 TCU 27.
"I like the diversity in the play calling. It should help us move the ball down the field and basically get our running game going," Kevin Dolese, LSU fan, said.
Fans had a few areas where they'd like to see the Tigers improve.
"The running game wasn't as good as I thought it would be," Archey said. "That might need a little work. Our coverage teams, we don't want to give up runbacks all in all it was a pretty good performance. "
Fans said they are prepared for more nailbitter games this season.
"It's the rush every game gives you. It's never just a normal game. It gives you a heart attack every game," Megan Archey, Tigers fan, said.
Fans predict the Tigers can have a winning season. If the Tigers just stay focused.
"I want us to be competitive and be in all the games, be prepared, not have any stupid losses, and play hard," Archey said.
"I see us being in the top five but we'll see how it goes," Dolese stated.
"Doesn't matter how it happens just make sure you win," Megan Archey exclaimed.
Up next the Tigers take on UAB at home on Saturday.
