NEW ORLEANS, LA (CNN) — A heartwarming reunion for a New Orleans teen and her father happened at a "Welcome Back to School" dance.
Taylor Carrigan thought she was receiving an award for patriotism at her high school dance, instead, her father, Sergeant Kelly Carrigan showed up.
He was overseas for months and was sent back to Louisiana after an injury.
"It was a wonderful gift, a wonderful surprise, to be able to see my daughters for the first time and be able to surprise them," said Carrigan.
"I flipped out," said Taylor. "I was not expecting that at all. That was crazy. That was amazing."
Now that he's back, Sergeant Carrigan says he'll be spending lots of quality time with the entire family.
