BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC33) — Tropical Storm Fernand formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico Sunday evening. The National Hurricane Center forecasts Fernand will head westward into Mexico over the next, few days and pose no threat to south Louisiana.
After becoming Tropical Depression Six Sunday afternoon, winds continued to strengthen through the evening. The Hurricane Hunters found sustained winds around 45 mph- enough to name the system a tropical storm.
