VERNON PARISH, LA (NBC33) — $60 million - that's the price tag on the thousands of marijuana plants discovered by the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office over the past three months.
Officials found the first marijuana field in June; that field had nearly 16,000 plants.
The second field was found in July and had 12,000 plants.
The most recent field was found two weeks ago and had 15,000 plants.
Federal investigators estimate each plant to be valued at $1,500.
Sheriff Craft says fingerprints have helped identify a Mexican deportee as a suspect, but says it may be difficult to find who else is responsible.
