CALCASIEU PARISH, LA — A Moss Bluff man has been arrested after he posed as a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputy and shoplifted items from a Wal-Mart.
At about noon on August 20, Sheriff Tony Mancuso was notified by Sulphur Chief of Police Lewis Coates that the Wal-Mart in Sulphur had surveillance photos of a man in a CPSO uniform shoplifting. The photos show the man entering and leaving the store, along with a picture of his white pick up truck in the parking lot.
Both the Sulphur Police Department and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office began working to identify the man.
The man was identified by CPSO detectives who recognized him through previous criminal acts. Gary A. Robertson, 26, is not a deputy, but the relative of a CPSO deputy, from whom he stole a uniform, unbeknownst to the deputy who confirmed she had a uniform missing.
CPSO Patrol stopped Robertson between Moss Bluff and Westlake for a traffic violation. Robertson ran but was quickly apprehended. He was booked into the Sulphur City Jail and charged with Theft Over $500; Impersonation of a Police Officer and Theft. More charges are possibly pending.
Robertson’s bond is set at $120,000.
