LAKE CHARLES, LA (NBC33) — Two men were arrested after they allegedly attempted to steal $21,000 worth of rims off vehicles at a car dealership.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies observed the men walking around the dealership at roughly 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14. The deputies tried to approach the men, but they allegedly took off running.
After a brief foot pursuit, deputies apprehended Daniel L. Washington, 42, of Spring, TX, and Robert A. Lewis, 33, of Houston, TX.
The two men were reportedly in possession of a drill, lug wrench, a floor jack, bolt cutters and two cardboard boxes filled with wooden blocks. Washington was also in possession of a set of keys for a U-Haul truck that was located about two blocks from the car dealership. It was parked at Sulphur High School.
Both men were arrested and charged with Attempted Theft over $1,500, Criminal Trespass, Flight from an Officer, and Possession of Burglary Tools. They were booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.
