JARREAU, LA (NBC33) — A man is facing a slew of charges after he allegedly fled from law enforcement in a stolen vehicle, then rammed a deputy’s vehicle head-on. Officials believe he was drunk at the time of the crash, and he was additionally arrested for his third DWI.
The Louisiana State Police reports that the incident happened at on Thursday, Aug. 15 shortly before 10:00 p.m. We’re told a deputy with the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on Travis J. Jarreau, 28, due to a pending domestic abuse investigation.
The deputy reported that Jarreau refused to pull the vehicle over and the chase ended on LA 413 when he allegedly struck the deputy’s vehicle head-on.
Jarreau was apprehended after the crash and officials say there was a strong odor of alcohol detected.
Jarreau was arrested and charged with DWI (third offense), Failure to Yield, Domestic Abuse Battery, Simple Criminal Damage to Property, False Imprisonment, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and Unauthorized use of a Movable.
The deputy suffered minor injuries from the crash, but is expected to make a full recovery.
