LAPLACE, LA (NBC33) — The community will gather tomorrow to remember two deputies killed one year ago during an ambush at a trailer park near Laplace.
Deputy Brandon Nielsen, 34, and Deputy Jeremy Triche, 27, were shot and killed on August 16, 2012.
“Police officers take risks and suffer inconveniences to protect the lives, defend civil liberties, secure the safety of fellow citizens, and they endure such risks and tolerate such inconveniences on behalf of strangers,” states a notice about the ceremony. “Consequently, police work is one of the more noble and selfless occupations in society.”
The ceremony will take place at the New Wine Christian Fellowship Church located on West Airline Highway in Laplace. It will begin at 9:00 a.m.
"They are the real hero's,” Michael Rollo, a resident told NBC33 News before the funeral service for Deputy Triche. “It's not the actors with the big contract or the athletes with the big contracts. These people who put their lives on the lines every day to protect us."
Deputy Michael Boylington and Deputy Jason Triche were injured during the incident that claimed the lives of their fellow law enforcement officers.
