ST. JOSEPH, LA (NBC33) — Two people are hospitalized and the gunman who held them hostage is dead following a more than 12-hour standoff with law enforcement.
It all started at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Tensas Sate Bank located in the town of St. Joseph. The suspect, Faued Abdo Ahmed, 20, is a California-native who relocated to Louisiana with his family. They reportedly own a convenience store in the area.
According to Col. Mike Edmundson of the Louisiana State Police, notes were found in Ahmed’s home indicating that he planned this attack. Officials say they do not believe robbery was his motive.
Ahmed held three employees hostage at gunpoint. Negotiators worked throughout the day for a peaceful resolution. At one point in the evening he released a woman after spending roughly 2 and a half hours on the phone with the negotiator.
Shortly after midnight police entered the bank and Ahmed shot the two remaining hostages. Police shot and killed Ahmed.
The two victims were transported to local hospitals in critical condition.
No further information was released regarding the possible motive for Ahmed’s attack.
