BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A Baton Rouge rapper was tased and arrested after he allegedly disarmed a police officer and kicked a second officer in the face during a struggle. His son was also arrested after he allegedly forced his way into the house while police were conducting a search.
The investigation began on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at roughly 7:30 p.m. Officials say officers were patrolling the area when they noticed an individual commit a traffic violation.
“They saw a person who was driving without a seatbelt,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “They attempted a traffic stop, but he fled from police and committed several other traffic violations in the process.”
Officials say the individual eventually stopped the vehicle. He jumped out and had what officers believed to be a package of marijuana in his hands. The man ran into a home located on North 36th Street.
“After seeing him run into the house they went in after him and secured the house,” Cpl. McKneely noted.
We're told three individuals, including the one who ran from police during the traffic stop, were located in the home. When they were securing the home they also located Ronrico Terrell, Sr., 37, in the attic.
“Terrell was observed going into the attic with a firearm in his hand,” the arrest report notes. “Officers gave chase into the attic and [Terrell] was observed attempting to hide a firearm and a clear plastic baggie of marijuana under the insulation. Officers ordered [him] to exit the attic and [he] initially refused…”
The report claims Terrell began to struggle with the officer. He allegedly knocked an officer to the ground and grabbed his handgun out of its holster. The gun allegedly fell from the attic and landed on the ground below. Terrell allegedly kicked a second officer in the face as he attempted to enter the attic. That’s when they used a taser to subdue him.
At this point a search warrant had been obtained and the officers began a thorough search of the residence. While the officers were conducting a search, three additional individuals, including Terrell’s 17-year-old son, attempted to enter the home.
“[He] was standing on the porch attempting to enter the residence,” the arrest report noted. “Officers advised [Ronrico Terrell, Jr.] that they could not enter the residence.”
Terrell Jr. and the other individuals allegedly attempted to push and kick the door open. The officers held it shut but he was able to get inside. An officer attempted to restrain him, but he allegedly refused and was forcibly restrained.
The items recovered during the search of the home included the handgun in the attic which was reported stolen, 3.2 grams of marijuana, a suspected cocaine kilo wrapper package, 19 dose of Hydrocodone, 2 doses of Diazapam, and 5 doses of Temazepam, a liquid container containing codeine syrup, numerous plastic baggies with marijuana residue, and 3 digital scales.
The report also notes that Terrell, Sr., had $3,240 in cash on him at the time of his arrest. The officer asked where the money came from and he said that “he is a rapper and that’s how he gets his money.”
Terrell, Sr., was arrested and charged with two counts of Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession with the Intent to Distribute (Schedule III, IV, V), Resisting an Officer, Disarming a Police Officer, two counts of Battery of a Police Officer, and Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. He was later released after posting a $95.000 bond.
Terrell, Jr., was arrested and charged with Obstruction of Justice and Resisting an Officer.
The names of the additional individuals arrested in connection to this case have not yet been provided by police. We will update this link with that information as soon as it becomes available.
