BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A 20-year-old woman was arrested on cruelty charges after an investigation revealed that her 11-month-old child was suffering from multiple head fractures.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the investigation began on Sunday, Aug. 4. We’re told officers were called to the Baton Rouge General Mid City to investigate the possible cruelty.
Officials say the child was brought in by her mother Tymedia Crawford. The child initially presented with symptoms of possible pneumonia. A further examination revealed that the child was suffering from brain swelling and had multiple fractures that had already healed.
The infant was transferred to another hospital where she is being treated for potentially life threatening injuries.
Crawford was arrested and charged with Second-Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile. She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
