PORT ALLEN, LA (NBC33) — A local basketball star is taking this week to show kids that they can be just like him.
Brandon Bass is hosting a series of camps around the Capital Area.
He was at Devall Middle School in Port Allen this morning, because that's where he went to school when he was growing up. He held another camp yesterday in New Roads, where his father lived.
Aside from basketball skills, Bass says he wants to give the kids inspiration.
"Growing up in the neighborhoods I grew up in, you think that being a successful person, like an athlete, or someone successful, was almost impossible,” stated Bass. “And I want them to be able to touch me, and be able to see me, and now that it is possible."
Bass will host one more camp tomorrow morning at Capital High School. He'll then put on a back-to-school giveaway in the afternoon at BREC Progress Park.
