BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A 19-year-old man was arrested this morning for allegedly shooting his pregnant girlfriend because of a "disagreement."
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, August 2. Officers responded to the Kings Court Apartments and found the victim suffering from multiple gun shot wounds.
Officials say the 20-year-old victim was involved in an argument with her boyfriend, Gregory Williams. He allegedly shot her in the head and shoulder, then fled the scene prior to police arrival.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive her injuries.
“She had a surgery and after she recovers we’re going to interview her about this particular shooting,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “As far as we know the baby is fine.”
Officers were able to locate Williams at his home. He was arrested and charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
“There’s a possibility they may upgrade or change some of the charges,” Cpl. McKneely said.
We’re told Williams has no prior criminal history.
