BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — UPDATE: Derrick Bland, 48, turned himself in to police in connection to this shooting. He will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Second-Degree Murder. Officials have not provided any additional details regarding the investigation.
ORIGINAL: A Baton Rouge man was shot and killed while attending a family gathering on July 28.
BRPD homicide detectives say James Stockton, 40, is dead after his brother-in-law shot him.
The 48-year old shooting suspect is still on the run, and police have not released his name.
Police investigators say Stockton and his brother-in-law got into an argument while at a family get-together on the 2100 block of North Lobdell, where the victim and suspect both lived.
Family members told detectives the suspect was asked to leave his apartment. When he complied, he shot Stockton multiple times on his way out.
The suspect fled the scene on foot and police were unable to find him Sunday night.

This is the 36th homicide investigation for the Baton Rouge Police Department in 2013 . Of those cases, three were committed in self-defense, and three were listed as negligent homicide due to an accidental shooting.
