WALKER, LA (NBC33) — In Walker, kids who need uniforms for school finally got their wish today. The Walker Police Department handed out hundreds of clothes they've collected this year.
Police lead the uniform drive every year in the city. It's designed to help out those who cannot afford buying new uniforms. This year, police were able to hand out more items than they expected. Now, Kenneth Black of Walker Police Department said he's hoping there is enough to go around.
"It bridges the gap between the police department and the community. A lot of times as police officers, they see us in a negative light," Black said. "It's our opportunity to get back to the community to help some families who probably can't afford to get uniforms."
Black said he's already looking forward to near year, and he's hoping to break another record for the number of donations.
