BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — New housing developments are coming to North Baton Rouge in an effort to boost the area’s reputation.
State representatives say adding more housing will cut down on crime.
Today marked the official grand opening of two out of three new housing developments.
Partners for Progress and East Baton Rouge Housing Authority have been working for years to build nice, affordable housing developments for residents in that area, and now, they've done it.
The former chair of the EBRPHA, Barbara Carpenter, said all this work is for the people.
"We have had a good team here who worked hard, put aside politics, and just did what was necessary for the good of the people, and that's what's important,” stated Carpenter. “You have to rule with the heart, and so that's why it's so important to me."
The new developments are located right off of McClelland and Hollywood across the street from the Piggly Wiggly.
Housing authority officials tell us that these developments are a first in this area, but will definitely not be the last.
