ZACHARY, LA (NBC33) — Zachary Police officers arrested three teens after they robbed a couple who answered a Craigslist ad.
The couple answered an ad for a iPhone on Craigslist. When the "seller" answered he instructed the couple to meet him in Zachary at a predetermined site Sunday. The couple was unfamiliar with the area. When they got closer the seller changed the meeting location to Rollins Road Park.
"Three male subjects approached the victim, and the subjects produced a fire arm and took the victims money," Sgt. Johnny Dillon, with the Zachary Police Department, explained.
The couple snapped a picture of the alleged robbers as they walked away, and called police. Police talked to people living near the park and the neighbors identified the three teens.
Police arrested Kristofer Marshall and Shedrick Williams both 18 along with a 15-year-old.
"We are seeing more teenagers get involved in more violent crimes."
Sgt. Dillon said people have to be more careful when they buy things off sites like Craigslist.
"Actually it's not surprising at all it's something we see pretty often now," Dillon explained. "People do post illegitimate ads and other sites where they try to lure victims to other areas to commit a robbery. "
He said you should choose a location to pick up the product. Somewhere you feel comfortable.
"If you are not really familiar with the area that they are directing you to it would be ill-advised for you to go to that area," Dillon said.
He explained don't go alone.
"I would definitely recommend either have someone with you, or let someone know where you are going to be the general area. So if something does in fact happen someone will know where you are," He said.
He also advised if the ad looks fake, the ad probably is.
