BATON ROUGE, LA — BREC is hosting its first-ever "Movie at the Lagoon" to celebrate National Parks and Recreation month. It’s set to happen at a special after-hours event at Liberty Lagoon on Saturday, July 20 from 7– 10 p.m.
For the reduced admission of $5 per person, visitors can watch the Disney movie "Wreck-It Ralph" as well as compete for prizes in activities such as lily pad races, float races, fishing pole casting competitions, pool ping pong and a dunking water balloon chair. Visitors can also play sand volleyball, float on the lazy river and enjoy the park’s water slides as part of the evening fun.
Activities will run from 7:30-9:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at 8 p.m. or sunset, whichever comes last. Participants are asked to please bring beach towels or blankets for the movie, which will be shown on the grassy "island area" of the park. Limited concessions will be sold for the event.
Since BREC’s Liberty Lagoon has a capacity of 600 people, patrons may purchase wristbands in advance Wed.-Fri. from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. or the day of the event beginning at 10 a.m. at the Liberty Lagoon Guest Services window.
Across the nation, parks and recreation agencies spend the month of July encouraging families and individuals to visit their local parks in order to inspire healthy, active lifestyles. In East Baton Rouge Parish, BREC has posted a full calendar of activities on the BREC website at http:/http://www.brec.org.
