LAFAYETTE, LA (NBC33) — UPDATE: The Lafayette Police Department identified the suspect in the bank robbery and carjacking as Justin Reed Seawright, 31, of Lafayette. He was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force in Bay St. Louis shortly after midnight on Friday, July 19. We’re told he was in possession of the vehicle allegedly obtained during the car jacking.
ORIGINAL: Police are searching for a bank robber who is also believed to be connected to a carjacking.
The Lafayette Police Department reports that the robbery happened at roughly noon on Wednesday, July 17. The suspect walked into the bank located on Johnston Street, pulled out a gun and demanded money.
The suspect managed to get away, but they believe he’s connected to a carjacking that happened the day before.
On Tuesday, July 16 at roughly 4:30 p.m. , a suspect matching the description of the bank robber, walked up to a female who was in a parking lot located in the 2800 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway. He put a gun to her head and then stole her white 2006 Mazda Tribute. The vehicle bears the Louisiana license plate number “PIL340.”
The suspect is described as a white male, 5’6” tall between 30-40 years old.
