EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (NBC33) — Emergency responders are searching the Amite River for a missing person.
The St. George Fire Department tells NBC33 News they are assisting with the search that began at roughly 4:10 p.m. on Monday, July 15. They say they are stationed in the 10000 block of Horseshoe Bend, which is close to the Amite River.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office says two men and a woman were swimming in the river around that time. A 25-year-old man jumped into the water from an embankment. The water is roughly 16-25 feet deep in the area where he went under. The two witnesses said he never resurfaced.
Emergency crews are searching the water by boat at this time. A portion of Horseshoe Bend Road is closed to traffic at this time.
