ST. BERNARD PARISH, LA — The passenger of a vehicle died after the car he was inran into a ditch, partially ejecting the man.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on July 13, state police investigated a fatal crash in St. Bernard Parish.
A Camaro that was being driven by Samuel Hampton Jr., 38, of Violet, was traveling at a high rate of speed on LA 39 north, when he ran off the road to the right into a ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn and strike a residence.
Victor Major, 46, was the front seat passenger and was unrestrained at the time of the crash. He was partially ejected and pronounced dead on the scene
Hampton was wearing a seat belt and was transported to the Interim LSU Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center with moderate injuries.
Three juvenile passengers, ages 4, 10 and 11, were wearing seat belts in the rear seat. All three juveniles were transported to the Level 1 Trauma Center with moderate injuries.
Impairment is suspected as a factor of the crash and blood was taken from Hampton and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Criminal charges are pending at this time for him. The crash remains under investigation
