BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A Missouri City, Texas man was hit and killed Friday night on Perkins Rd. Jianlin He parked his 18 wheeler in the turning lane facing west on Perkins road when he stepped out and was hit. Police say an 82 year old man was driving the car that struck He. The accident happened around ten Friday evening.
Now people who work and live right where that accident happened are looking for some answers.
"It was very, very scary," said Courtney Greer.
Courtney Greer walked out of work late Friday night, looked across the street and didn’t believe her eyes.
"A guy had been hit laying right there in the street. He had of and stuff and to go boxes everywhere and they were resuscitating him," noted Greer.
She says a hit and run like this has never happened before on this stretch of Perkins Rd.
"It is bad right here. I don't know if they should put a light, a stop sign, caution light, I really don't know," she stated.
Even Ashley Williams who lives on the other side of the street says she was shocked when she heard the news.
"To die right there that's very shocking and in front of my house especially," said Williams.
But she also said it was bound to happen.
"People are flying, they are flying and not going the speed limit," she said.
So along with taking caution herself, Courtney says she will have to make sure everyone knows that anything can happen.
"Especially working in a restaurant, people have a couple of drinking with dinner so I will be warning them to drive safely."
So all they can do now is hope something is done soon to help slow down these drivers.
"If they don’t pay attention to it probably will happen again," said Williams.
He was making a delivery at the time and police also say alcohol was not a factor in this situation.
