CENTRAL, LA (NBC33) — The Central Thruway promised convenience for drivers headed in or out of that city. However, one day after opening, it’s causing some unexpected headaches.
The thruway finally opened on Thursday, July 11 after four years of construction . This morning, drivers found that some of the traffic lights are not working, while others were not synced up. In addition, some drivers say the markings for left turn lanes are confusing.
"Turning left, there's not an arrow or anything that gives you a warning before you get to it that you're going to be in a lane that needs to turn left," Pat Avery, Central resident, explained.
People who own businesses along the thruway say it's hard for their customers to get across it, to pull into or out of their parking lots. Most of the people we spoke with today say they're having to go the opposite direction and try to make a u-turn.
The City of Central had crews out on the road today, trying to make the new commute a little easier.
