BATON ROUGE, LA — The world-renowned company, Ailey II, the beloved holiday favorite, The Nutcracker—A Tale from the Bayou, and the premiere of full length classical Snow White, will grace the River Center stage for Baton Rouge Ballet’s 2013-2014 main stage season.
BRBT will begin its season by hosting the second company of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Ailey II. Ailey II is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today’s most outstanding emerging choreographers. The highly acclaimed group of modern dancers returns to Baton Rouge after enchanting local audiences in 2009. This one night only performance on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. is sure to captivate the city once again.
The season continues with our holiday tradition, The Nutcracker—A Tale from the Bayou, on Saturday, December 21, 2013, and Sunday, December 22, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. This treasured production has drawn sold out audiences since its inception in 1991 and continues to thrill children and adults alike. The Nutcracker—A Tale from the Bayou incorporates local landmarks and features world-class guest artists, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and more than 300 area children.
The seven dwarves will join BRBT company members onstage April 5, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. and April 6, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. This original full-length work is choreographed, designed and staged by the esteemed Winthrop Corey, artistic director of Moblie Ballet and former principal dancer of Canada’s Royal Ballet and National Ballet of Canada. Snow White is a stunning ballet, receiving rave reviews when it premiered in Mobile, Al. Winthrop Corey’s Snow White is sure to be the capital city’s must-see event of Spring 2014.
All performances will be at the River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts.
