LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA — A Denham Springs mother has been arrested after her son choked himself by rolling up a window onto his neck while she was visiting with a friend.
According to the investigation, Candace Gordon, 20, had stopped at the residence of an acquaintance on Old River Road in Maurepas on July 3. She left her 2-year-old son and 14-month-old daughter in her vehicle with the engine still running while she went inside the residence.
While Gordon was inside the residence, the 2-year-old managed to free himself from his car seat and began manipulating the controls to the windows of the vehicle . The 2-year-old then rolled the passenger window up onto his neck, causing him to lose consciousness. He was then transported to Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge in critical condition and was released from there on July 6.
Gordon was taken into custody on Monday, July 8. She was charged with Second-Degree Cruelty to Juveniles and two counts of Child Desertion.
Gordon bonded out of Livingston Parish Detention Center in the late afternoon on Tuesday July 9, 2013.
No further updates on the case or medical condition of the 2-year-old are available at this time.
