ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA (NBC33) — A man has been arrested for allegedly robbing an elderly woman in her home. The woman claimed her attacker strangled her and ransacked her home after she passed out from lack of oxygen.
“[Deputies] spoke to the 80 year old victim who explained to investigators that her attacker came in through a bedroom window during the night,” Cpt. Megan Vizena, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, said. “The victim stated the suspect demanded money and then began to strangle her. Once the victim lost consciences, the suspect ransacked the home in search of money.
“Once the victim regained consciousness, she was able to call for help. She was also able to give investigators a good description of the suspect.”
That description led investigators to Charles Durell Lavergne, 28. He was arrested for the crime that happened back on May 25 and was charged with Home Invasion, Theft, and Attempted First-Degree Murder.
