GEISMAR, LA (NBC33) — DEQ has issued two compliance orders for the Williams Olefins plant where a deadly explosion happened over three weeks ago.
One of the orders addresses the company's water retention pond, which is used for testing.
The other order cites 39 different air quality and reporting violations over the past several years.
These orders serve as notice that the company could face penalties if the issues are not addressed.
DEQ also wants to be informed as soon as a source and cause of the explosion is determined to help with their investigation and testing.
The explosion happened on Thursday, June 13 shortly before 9:00 a.m. The blast killed two people and injured just under 80 people.
