LEBANON, IN (WXIN-CNN) — Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that broke out on the tour bus of country superstar Toby Keith Monday morning on Interstate 65 in Boone County, Indiana.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:51 a.m. to find heavy fire coming from the rear engine of the 2008 Prevost Tour Bus.
The bus driver told authorities he noticed flames shooting out of the rear driver side of the bus. Within seconds, he reported the bus lost power. The driver was able pull the bus over into the emergency lane of I-65.
Keith was not on board at the time of the fire. However, the busses carried backup dancers, guitar technicians and other technical members of Keith's band. No injuries were reported.
The tour bus was headed to Nashville, Tenn. from Chicago, Ill.
Damage is estimated at more than $250,000 and is expected to increase once fire investigators determine the value of the personal property and equipment damaged.
The investigation into the fire is ongoing, but investigators said the fire began in the engine compartment of the tour bus.
