MANDEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT — Mandeville Police responded to the call of a suspicious package placed on the front doorstep of a former IRS agent. The package turned out to be a chess set.
Police say it happened around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Mandeville Police received a suspicious package complaint from Devon Drive in the Golden Glen Subdivision. Mandeville Detectives as well as the St Tammany Parish Sheriff's Bomb Squad worked to figure out what was in the case.
Preliminary x-ray images of the contents of the case gave investigators reason to remotely open the case with a water canon which was mounted to a robot. It was then after further remote and physical inspection of the contents by a St Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office bomb technician that the case was determined to be harmless and devoid of any explosives.
