BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — One of the state's best volunteers used an award as a chance to keep giving back.
Charles Bennett won an online poll, naming him Louisiana's Outstanding Senior Volunteer.
He was nominated for his work at places like the Mental Health Association of Greater Baton Rouge and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
Along with the recognition, Home Instead Senior Care donated $500 to the food bank.
"It gives you a good feeling, to (have) people thinking you're doing something good for the community,” stated Bennett. “We enjoy it, all of it that we do. Just don't have time to do any more."
Bennett said he and his wife have made volunteering their full-time jobs since he retired more than 20 years ago. They donate their time to nearly two dozen agencies.
In addition to all those years of service, they have raised close to $600,000 for the various groups.
