BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The father of the 11-month-old child who died earlier this week was arrested today and charged with First-Degree Murder. As he was being transported to Parish Prison, he protested the charges.
“Y’all know I a’int do this, man,” Larry Lefleore said to reporters outside the LSP headquarters on Independence Blvd.
Lefleore, 26, was taken into custody today by the Baton Rouge Police Department for the death of his daughter, Aaliyah Heard. As he refuted the allegations, reporters asked him directly if he was responsible for his daughter’s death.
“So you’re saying you didn’t do this,” NBC33’s Alex Deiro asked.
“No ma’am,” he quickly replied.
“Did you beat your child,” another reporter asked.
“No ma’am,” he protested again.
“Then who did,” Deiro asked.
“Her mama or somebody. This is cold blooded. I can’t talk to my kids or nothing.”
Police were first notified of the death on Friday, June 21 shortly after 1:00 p.m. We’re told EMS transported the unresponsive infant to a local hospital. She survived the night but passed away the following morning just after 11:00 a.m.
An autopsy revealed that the child died from blunt force head trauma. It also indicated that the infant was suffering from various other injuries that were in different stages of healing.
Ashley Heard, 28, was arrested on Monday and was charged with Second-Degree Cruelty. Police say her charges will remain the same because they believe Lefleore was primarily responsible for the life-threatening injuries.
The Department of Children and Family Services released a statement today regarding the case. The note that prior to this incident, the agency had “no past substantiated reports of abuse or neglect” involving the child or the family.
Lefleore was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
