BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A local church said the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that struck down DOMA is a win for both Baton Rouge and the country.
The Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge on Goodwood has been performing same-sex ceremonies for months.
Pastor Steve Crump said today's ruling means that same-sex couples at the ceremonies could be more open about their relationships. Crump said it's a big first step.
”I think what we're going to do every so often is invite people who come to ceremonies to speak to the goodness of life and to applaud the couples who are here for stepping out, being open, and inviting others to celebrate them,” stated Crump.
Reverend Crump said he's not sure yet if the ruling would lead to more same-sex marriages in the near future.
