BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Autopsy results for the death of an 11-month-old have prompted a homicide investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department.
The autopsy shows that the infant, Aaliyah Heard of Baton Rouge, died from blunt force head trauma. Investigators will file criminal charges, but have not yet released a name of a suspect.
Police were first notified of the death on Friday, June 21 shortly after 1:00 p.m. We’re told EMS transported the unresponsive infant to a local hospital. She survived the night but passed away the following morning just after 11:00 a.m.
Family members were interviewed and the case was presented to the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. The autopsy was scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
This is the fourth infant homicide investigation conducted by law enforcement in East Baton Rouge Parish during 2013. Of those cases, three were caused by blunt force trauma. The fourth case involved a 2-year-old who was accidentally shot by a family member.
