NATIONAL NEWS (CNN) — A 13-year-old boy stole his grandmother's car and led police on a chase and it was all caught on video.
When police get a call about a wild car causing havoc in the streets, they're thinking one thing: Operating while intoxicated.
It was described as going up over curbs, driving on flat tires and also driving at speeds of around 50MPH in residential zones.
But, when Sergeant Kovacs caught up with the driver, there was nothing routine about it The mystery man took off leaving a trail behind him.
He crashed through a construction zone and went through a bunch of barricades showing complete disregard for the safety of the public.
After a quick demonstration of some terrible driving skills, he came to a stop.
That's how police thought the chase might end, but then, he took off again.
When these chases occur a lot of times police are thinking it's some hard criminal, somebody's running for a pretty significant violation is what's expected. But, not this time.
Police are expecting this to be some big time criminal and here was a 13-year-old boy who took his grandma's car without permission.
He was fearless inside of the car, but outside, he went from daredevil driver to typical teenager.
And yes he did admit to police he had been drinking. He was going over to visit a friend.
Ankeny police say it's the first time they've been lead on a pursuit by someone so young.
This young man got out of the car and official's initial thought was, "Gosh, this boy can't weigh 70 pounds soaking wet, so it was quite a shock."
Unfortunately, for this kid, he's now facing some very grown up charges.
The teenager is charged with reckless driving, operating while intoxicated, eluding police and driving without a license.
