BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A juvenile decided to arm himself with a gun after someone robbed him for his bike. The teen who supplied the weapon was arrested after he ran from police.
An officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department responded to the call on Sunday, June 16. The juvenile’s parent called after he learned his son was in possession of a .22 caliber rifle. He gave police a description of the teen who supplied it and they located someone matching the description shortly thereafter.
When the officer approached the teen - later identified as Darrius Alexander, 17 - he ran to a home on Titian Ave.
The officer spoke to Alexander’s mother, who gave consent to search the residence. He was reportedly hiding in a cabinet in the bathroom.
The officer asked Alexander why he ran, and he allegedly said it was because he was in possession of a bag of marijuana. The officer did locate the marijuana as well as a .380 Cobra hand gun in his bedroom.
Alexander was arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Schedule I Drug (marijuana), Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile, and Resisting an Officer. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
