NATALBANY, LA (NBC33) — A 61-year-old man was arrested for causing a crash that killed a man from Natalbany.
The Louisiana State Police reports that the crash happened on Friday, June 14 shortly before 8:00 p.m. It happened on LA 1065 near LA 442 in Tangipahoa Parish.
Officials say the driver who caused the crash, Johnny Leboeuf, 61, of Bourg, was driving south when he failed to yield when making a turn into a driveway. He was hit a motorcycle being driven by Carl Jones, 36.
Jones was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The debris of the crash hit a truck that was traveling behind Leboeuf in the southbound lane.
Leboeuf and his passenger, a 29-year-old woman, were not injured in the crash. However, Leboeuf voluntarily submitted to a breath alcohol test, which showed signs of alcohol in his system.
Leboeuf was arrested and charged with Failure to Yield while Making a Left Turn and Negligent Homicide.
While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving, never drive while fatigued or impaired, and avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. To report distracted drivers or other hazardous road conditions, motorists can dial *LSP (*577) from your cellular phone to reach the State Police office closest to you.
