Geismar, La (NBC33) — With injuries or without, plant workers and their families may need to talk to someone about this ordeal. Just having someone to listen at a time like this can mean the difference between living in fear or healing and moving on.
The Louisiana Spirit Crisis Counseling Program has set up a counseling triage center of sorts at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, so that evacuated workers who feel like they need to talk to someone, can do that.
The group has been on scene all day.
“We are here. We are on the ground. We are going to be here to support them to give crisis counseling,” stated Debbie Triggs with the Human Services Authority. “To give a listening ear - most of the time - but also give them resources to help them through this traumatic time."
For those who either didn’t talk with someone or set up counseling today or realize at a later time that they need help in coping, there is free counseling available through the LA Spirit Line at 1-866-310-7977. The phone lines are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
