Baton Rouge, la (nbc33) — LSU freshman Alex Bregman was nowhere close to Baton Rouge when the Tiger baseball team fell one win short of the College World Series in 2012.
“I was back home in Albuquerque. I saw how hurt they were,” the New Mexico native said.
But the pictures on his television told the story. Then Bregman made a vow.
“I promised myself I wouldn't let the seniors feel that way again. So I guaranteed we’d go back,” he said.
He didn’t just think it, or say it. The freshman of the year put it on twitter for the world to see. This week recalled that event and how the mood in Baton Rouge has a different feel.
“The main reason I came here was to get to Omaha and win national championships.”
I gave him another shot at another promise before heading off to Omaha.
I asked “Do you want to make another one?”
“I guarantee we will go up there and play as hard as ever for nine innings against UCLA because that's all we are worried about right now," Bregman replied with a grin.
